I spent three days in Hollywood North (Toronto) this month. Addison’s Inc. in Downtown Toronto West is a museum-like facility that provides set pieces for designers to use in films made in the area. Everything you need to decorate an upscale Victorian home is available there.
Among the claw foot tubs, pedestal sinks and assorted antiques are rows upon rows of cast-iron radiators and I was brought in to antique six of them.
Once the rads were dipped in a corrosive solution to rid the beautiful castings of rust and grime and paint I was ready to decorate them using a metallic paint and antiqued patina. The results you can see in the image above.
For you, I can do country style, shabby chic or other designer looks that are “in” at the moment. Of course for rads we always recommend that they be styled before they are installed so you can get at every side.
Addison’s is now recommending my work to Toronto designers and I hope to be able to do more in the future.

This new trend is gaining traction in the UK and you can bet we are going to see it take hold here. Costs can vary depending on size. Some take longer to style because the fins are so close together but they are all probably a little under priced right now. When they catch on, you will see them getting more expensive.
